Para quem não entendeu vou explicar: O cartoon acima faz uma ”brincadeira”, com a história de Alice no país das maravilhas (The Magic of Oz). A professora, apresenta o novo estudant de intercâmbioe pergunta se algum aluno que ir a frente e ajudá-lo a encontra ”Oz” no mapa. Só que ”Oz” não existe no mapa mundi, apenas em histórias de contos de fadas.rs

Como é que se fiz “FULANO” em Inglês?

Estava pesquisando no google algo que não tinha nada haver com Inglês e sem querer me deparei com este assunto super interessante abaixo, então resolvi postar no blog. So, here you are!

Para quem não sabe a palavra ‘fulano’ é usada para designar uma pessoa que não queremos mencionar o nome ou que não sabemos o nome dela.

Tinha um fulano aí te procurando.

O namorado da fulana estava aqui agora a pouco.

Quem é este fulano?

Em inglês quando não desejamos mencionar o nome da pessoa ou simplesmente não sabemos podemos fazer uso de duas expressões. Uma é ’so-and-so’ e a outra é ‘what’s his name’ ou ‘what’s her name’, todas usadas como equivalente ao nosso ‘fulano’ ou ‘fulano de tal’.

There was a so-and-so loooking for you here. [Tinha um fulano aí te procurando]

So-and-so’s boyfriend was here a couple of minutes ago. [O namorada da fulana estava aqui agora a pouco]

Who is this so-and-so? [Quem é este fulano?]

Alguns exemplos com as outras expressões são:

He said he was with what’s her name. [Ele disse que estava com uma fulana aí]

She’s coming to the party with what’s his name. [Ela vai vir à festa com um fulano de tal]

O legal em português é que geralmente colocamos a família toda junta. Ou seja, dizemos “fulano, cicrano e beltrano”. Será que em inglês há algo assim também? Claro que tem! Quando todo mundo resolve aparecer na sentença eles dizem “every Tom, Dick, and Harry“. Lembrando que estas expressões são usadas quando queremos nos referir a todo mundo. Algo como ‘toda a torcida do Flamengo’. Exemplo,

I said it was a secret, but she told it to every Tom, Dick and Harry. [Eu disse que era segredo mas ela contou pra toda a torcida do Flamengo]

He always agrees with every Tom, Dick and Harry. [Ele sempre concorda com fulano, cicrano e beltrano].
